Cortney Sera
Limited Licensed Masters of Social work
I offer therapy that makes room for both practical coping skills and deeper self-understanding.
Cortney offers in-person therapy sessions at our office in Bingham Farms, MI and virtual sessions for clients located in Michigan.
Cortney’s approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, integrative, and insight-oriented. She primarily works with adults and young adults, and also sees older adolescents ages 16+. She supports clients navigating anxiety, depression, grief, trauma-related concerns, neurodivergence, identity questions, relationship stress, life transitions, and self-understanding.
In therapy, Cortney aims to create a steady, nonjudgmental space where clients can make sense of what they are experiencing, recognize patterns that may no longer feel helpful, build practical coping skills, and move toward meaningful change at their own pace, however long it takes.

Cortney uses an integrative approach rather than one fixed therapy modality. She believes therapy should be person-centered and tailored to each client’s needs, goals, pace, and preferences. Depending on what feels useful, she may draw from psychodynamic, CBT-informed, DBT-informed, interpersonal, supportive, and mindfulness-based forms of therapy. Some sessions may feel more structured and practical, while others may be more reflective or exploratory.

Cortney’s path to clinical work as a psychotherapist has been shaped by more than a decade of experience in clinical psychology and interventional psychiatry research. Before entering clinical practice, she worked in clinical research coordination and management, including conducting diagnostic clinical interviews and psychological assessments with research participants.
She has a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Columbia University, with a specialization in Personality and Psychopathology, and a Master of Social Work from the University of Michigan, with a focus on Interpersonal Practice in Integrated Health and Mental Health. During her clinical training, she completed practicum placements in private practice and at Wayne State University Counseling and Psychological Services, where she provided individual and group therapy.
