Gahl Berkooz, PhD
Masters of Social work
“I work with clients using empathy, and a strengths based perspective to understand the root causes of emotions, opening the door to freedom.”
-
My speciality is not in who I work with, but how I work with and understand the human experience. I am able to provide in depth, empathic care using my training in social work, psychoanalysis, and my own in depth life experiences to people of all ages, from young children to older adults. I often work with highly traumatized individuals who are suffering and motivated to find connection, healing, and freedom to live the life they want.

I am a fourth year academic candidate in psychoanalytic training at the Michigan Psychoanalytic Institute. I have learned to listen for what lies beneath the surface, the importance of genuine empathy, and respect for the clients individual journey. I often work with folks more intensively, and enjoy seeing people multiple times a week to create deep, lasting relief.

Gahl is in training to be a psychoanalyst. He is in his fourth year of candidacy at the Michigan Psychoanalytic Institute, a nationally acclaimed multi-year intensive psychoanalytic program.
Gahl creates a space where you can show up exactly as you are, without fear of judgment or pressure to have everything figured out. He believes that many of our struggles make more sense when we understand where they come from, and he works alongside you to gently explore those patterns while building on the strengths you already have. Therapy moves at your pace, with an emphasis on trust, curiosity, and practical change. Whether you're feeling anxious, overwhelmed, stuck, or simply ready for something different, Gahl's goal is to help you better understand yourself, reconnect with what matters most, and move toward a more fulfilling, authentic life.
